Cop, ANP men among six perish in Karachi

KARACHI - Six people including a policeman and two political workers were gunned down in separate incidents of violence here on Saturday.
Gunmen shot dead Assistant Sub-Inspector Imran near Garden Police Headquarters within the limits of Solder Bazaar Police. The victim posted in the Anti-Violence and Crime Cell was sitting near his house when armed bikers killed him. The body of deceased cop was handed over to the family after autopsy. 
Likewise, two persons were killed in a clash that took place between rival groups in the remit of Pirabad Police.
An activist of Awami National Party namely Ashiq Ali was wounded near Shehzad Cinema, Qasba Colony. Ali was shifted to the Hospital with critical wounds while residents of the area started rioting and resorted to aerial firing.
As a result, MQM activist Irfan and passers-by Noor Wali sustained bullet wounds and was shifted to a hospital. Following the incident both groups started crossfire. During the exchange of fire, Ashfaq sustained injures and died on the way to hospital.
Another ANP worker Hidayat Mehsud sitting in a hair dresser’s shop was shot dead. Ashfaq had criminal background and wanted by the police in several criminal cases.
However, the area of Qasba Colony, Orangi Town, Kanwari Colony and Mangopir remained tense where rival armed groups were targeting each other’s. Following the tension, commercial and private activities were suspended while miscreants torched a motorbike.
Heavy contingent of police and Rangers rushed to the area to avert any further incident. Police and Rangers in a joint operation conducted in the trouble areas picked up 16 suspects while residents of area staged protest against the arrest of alleged criminals.
A man was killed here in the remit of Korangi Industrial Area Police. Muhammad Yousaf, 28, was standing near Yaseen Biryani Centre located at Sector 8-A Bilal Colony where gunmen on a motorbike reached and targeted him multiple times. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Meanwhile, the injured ANP worker 28-year-old Ashiq Alias Aashu succumbed to his injuries during at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) late Friday night.
Separately, a young was gunned down here in the Sharifabad Police precincts. Police official said that 26-year-old Riasat Khan, son of Sher Muhammad was standing near Baloch Hotel Garibabad, when bike-borne gunmen fired gunshots on him. Resultantly, he received bullet injuries and died on the spot.
The police shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities. Police official informed that the deceased had come to the City two days back from KPK in searching of job.
The police suspected personal dispute could be the reason behind the incident. No case could be registered till filling of the report.
