Clean Chundrigarh Road campaign commences

KARACHI - The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Pakistan banks association have joined hands in a drive to clean wall chalking, garbage and other waste from the I I Chundrigar Road.
On the initiative of the Acting Governor SBP Ashraf Mahmood Wathra, clean Chundrigarh Road Day 2014 was celebrated on Sunday. Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan was invited as a chief guest.
Speaking on the ocassion, Dr Ebad said that every citizen needs a clean environment to work and live in. He urged the people of Karachi to observe cleanliness day and take some positive steps towards making Karachi the city of dreams.
Acting Governor SBP Ashraf Mahmood Wathra said that no society could afford to ignore the significance of cleanliness and hygiene. He reminded that earlier in 2007, the funds were issued for the similar project for the construction and refurbishing of I.I. Chundrigar Road.
He added that the SBP and other stakeholders contributed a huge amount of Rs. 230 million for the project, but after its completion the municipal administration did not look after cleanliness and maintenance of the road.
“We must, at the individual and collective level, adopt a pro-active approach instead of waiting for someone to come along and do it for us,” he added.
He urged all the stakeholders to come forward and join hands to clear the road of garbage and take active part in the campaign. The drive was formally launched with the joint ribbon cutting ceremony at the SBP by the Governor Sindh and acting Governor SBP.
Deputy Governors SBP, senior officers of SBP, Commissioner Karachi, district government officials, representatives of commercial banks and others attended the ceremony.
