Govt’s ally keeps its ritual: JI

KARACHI – The Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Karachi Muhammad Hussain Mehanti has said that the government’s ally party and a banned outfit forcibly collected hides on gunpoint. He claimed that 80 per cent of sacrificial hides were donated under threats in the metropolis.Addressing a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq on Tuesday, he said that hides of sacrificial animals were the right of needy people. However, a government allied party continued its ritual of snatching and receiving hides forcibly. He said that the routine of collecting hides forcibly remained continue this year. Though the government had announced a code of conduct for collection of hides, all went in vein as the activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement and banned Peoples Aman Committee not only collect sacrificial hides on gunpoint, but also snatched hides from the workers of Jamaat-e-Islami.  Mehanti said that former legislator and JI leader Younas Barai was threatened. Thugs of MQM resorted to firing at Al-Khidmat workers at Gulistan-e-Johar area, Block-7, near Osmania mosque. Similarly several hides were snatched at Kaneez Fatima Society, Malik Society, Shah Faisal Colony, Model Colony, Ferozabad, Bahadurabad and other areas of the district East. He said worst examples of terrorism were established across the City in connection with snatching hides.  He also pressed the law-enforcement agencies for their failure in implementation code of conduct regarding collection of hides in the metropolis. He said heavy contingent of rangers and other LEAs were deployed in the metropolis but they played the role of silent spectator, when asked to take steps against snatching of hides. He said that rangers high ups even excused to move inside Lyari and MQM-dominated areas. He said that the apex court had also ordered to remove barriers from the City but the LEAs failed to do so. “What is the role of LEAs in the metropolis, if they couldn’t maintain law and order,” he raised question over presence of heavy contingent of LEAs in the City.  He said that a JI delegation had also conveyed its concerns to Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and urged them to draw an effective policy so that the City could be released from the clutches of terrorist elements.  To a question, he said that they had never joined hands with the terrorists of outlawed PAC. Mehanti further said that continuing its admirable rituals, JI under the banner of Al-Khidmat slaughter about 200 animals in various flood-affected areas. He further said that United Kingdom Islamic Mission, Helping Hand, Muslim Aid and Al-Khidmat Saudi Arabia supported the Al-Khidmat society.  He said Collective Sacrifice were organised over 500 spots in the metropolis. He thanked the people who donated hides of sacrificial animals to Al-Khidmat.
