LAHORE  - As the PML-N launched a campaign against unabated power loadshedding, a PPP leader called upon President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday to dismiss the Punjab government and impose governor’s rule.
Advocate Fawad Chaudhry, who recently joined the PPP after severing links with the APML of Gen Pervez Musharraf, sent a letter to the president to call for action against the Punjab government.
The PML-N held a rally in Lahore on Saturday to demand an end to what it calls step-motherly treatment being meted out to Punjab by subjecting it to the cruelest power outages. More such rallies will be held in other cities in the days and weeks ahead. The PPP leader said in the wake of Punjab government’s “sponsorship of seditious campaign against federal government and Pakistan”, the president should sack the provincial government and impose governor’s rule. It may be recalled here that Governor’s rule had also been enforced a couple of years ago when Mr Salman Taseer was still alive. However, the Supreme Court had declared it unconstitutional.
Fawad Chaudhry drew the attention of President Zardari to the fact that Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, PML-N MNAs Khurram Dastgir and Abid Sher Ali, and MPA Hafiz Noman under instructions from the Punjab Chief Minister attacked state and private properties and roughed up WPDA employees on many places.
“This all activity has been conducted with the help and under the guidance of provincial chief minister”, the PPP leader alleged, adding that such actions of the provincial chief executive  attract the provisions of Article 234 of the constitution. According to Fawad Chaudhry, the president is under constitutional obligation to dismiss the Punjab government and impose Governors rule.
