LAHORE Following special directives by the Operational City Police, over 770 proclaimed offenders, drug peddlers and court absconders were arrested during what the spokesman claimed in three days. According to a handout issued by the Operating Wing of the Lahore Police, during special raids carried out during the last three days about 152 POs, 420 court absconders and 160 history-sheeters were arrested whereas over 60 drug peddlers were also apprehended by the police while 60 kg charras, two kg heroine and 985 bottles of liquor were recovered from their possession. During the drive, about 65 accused on charges of having illegal firearms were also arrested whereas about 23 rifles, 48 pistols, carbines and about 1400 live bullets were also seized from their possession. The spokesman further claimed that over 90 gamblers, Rs 0.4 million in cash, 60 cell phones, six gold chains, 10 told rings and about 64 motorcycles were also recovered from them. Strict security: Capital City Police Officer Ahmad Raza Tahir has ordered city police to utilise all its resources to ensure foolproof law and order during the holy month of Ramazan. The CCPO directed complete implementation of security plan chalked out in this regard, along with ensuring proper checking of religious places. He warned that if any police official was found leaving his point of duty before departure of prayer at religious congregations, he would be proceeded against strictly. He directed divisional SPs to ensure effective patrolling during the holy month and depute additional force in uniform and in plain cloths outside religious congregations, commercial centres and other crowded places. In his order in connection with security of Ramazan, the CCPO said that the holy month demands from the Jawans of Lahore Police to perform their duty with greater efficiency, honesty and humility. He said that they should celebrate sacred days of holy month by displaying good and polite behaviour and by ensuring provision of justice to the aggrieved persons. Tahir informed that more than 8,000 police officials would perform their special Ramzan security duties at different points, whereas 160 mobile squads would also perform patrolling at all important places. He directed traffic police to ensure smooth running of traffic and ordered parking of motorcycles and vehicles well away and not in the close vicinity of Sunday and Ramzan Bazaars. The Capital City Police Officer also directed taking special security measures during the prayer timings and Travieh, by using metal detectors at sensitive places. He further ordered proper surveillance and keeping a watchful eye at the entry and exit places of the city. Tahir also appealed to the religious leaders and the citizens to extend their wholehearted cooperation to Lahore Police to ensure success of security arrangements in the city during the holy month of Ramazan.
