LAHORE - The City received scattered rains on Friday, making weather pleasant by causing considerable decrease in temperature during the day and at night.
Strong winds started blowing in the afternoon that followed by rains, providing much needed respite to the people from the prevailing muggy weather.
Maximum and minimum temperature in Lahore was recorded 32 degree Celsius and 25C respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 88 percent.
People came out of their houses in the evening to enjoy pleasant weather conditions. Major parks and picnic spots attracted a large number of people including women and children. Huge rush was witnessed at Bagh-e-Jinnah, Racecourse Park, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jallo Park, Lahore Zoo and other picnic spots in Lahore.
However, massive traffic jams were also witnessed on roads in the close vicinity of these picnic spots. The rains added to the woes of motorists and pedestrians as rainwater inundated on portions of roads and roadsides. Frequent traffic jams were witnessed on important roads due to inundated rainwater and slippery conditions. Several incidents of skidding of motorcycles were also reported from various parts of Lahore.
According to the experts, seasonal low lies over north Balochistan and adjoining areas. Thursday's well marked low pressure over north Rajasthan (India) has weaken into low pressure and now located over south Punjab and its adjoining areas. Under the influence of this low pressure, strong monsoon currents are penetrating central and upper parts of the country.
The local meteorological department has forecast partly cloudy weather with chances of rains for Lahore during the next couple of days. Met office has forecast widespread rain-thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, FATA, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Heavy rains may generate urban and flash flooding in local streams and nullahs of Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, DG Khan, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, DI Khan divisions and upper FATA (Khyber, Kurram, Bajaour,Aurakzai and Mehmand Agencies).
On Friday, DI Khan received 93mm rain, Kot Addu 65mm, Multan 58mm, Layyah 42mm, DG Khan 31mm, Balakot 26mm, Bahawalpur 24mm, Sahiwal 23mm, Okara 21mm, Bahawalnagar 18mm, Shorkot and Zhob 11mm each, Jhang 07mm, Drosh, Lahore and Bannu 06mm each, Kasur 05mm, Malamjabba, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanpur and Toba Tek Singh 04mm each, Dir and Sibbi 03mm each, Bhakkar, Garidupatta and Peshawar 02mm each, Barkhan, Chitral, Joharabad, Cherat and Faisalabad 01mm each.
