Lahore - Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) on Saturday announced to hold a sit-in in front of Parliament House on December 17 to press the Federal government against increasing target killings of working journalists in the country.
This was announced in the second Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President PFUJ Rana Muhammad Azeem in Lahore.
PFUJ Secretary General Amin Yousuf, President Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) GM Jamali, Secretary General Wajid Raza Isfahani, Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) Secretary Amir Sohail and senior journalists from various trade unions of the country also attended the second FEC meeting.
The meeting was briefed by the PFUJ office-bearers that a sit-in would be held in front of the Parliament House on December 17 to get attention of the govt against the increasing killings of working journalists in the country. The journalists from across the country will participate in the sit-in, while leaders of all political parties, lawyers and civil society will also be invited to attend the sit-in for solidarity and to pay rich tributes to martyred working journalists. Addressing the meeting, PFUJ President Rana Azeem and Secretary General Amin Yousuf said Pakistan was becoming a dangerous country for the working journalists every next day, while the mediamen rights had also been exploited. “It is necessary now to invite the govts’ across the world to ensure safety and security of the working journalists,” they maintained.
The meeting resolved that Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had become most dangerous provinces for journalists in the Pakistan.
