PPP urges PM to apologise to Zardari for false cases

LAHORE - PPP workers’ convention held here yesterday to mark party’s 48th foundation day demanded that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should apologize to Asif Ali Zardari, his family members as well as the party workers after latter’s acquittal by the trial court in corruption cases.
Party’ Lahore chapter had organized the convention which passed five resolutions moved by its secretary information Faisal Mir.
Ch. Aitzaz Ahsan, Sardar Latif Khosa,Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Samina Khalid Ghurki,Naveed Choudhary, Barrister Amir Hassan, Aurangzeb Barki and Altaf Qureshi addressed the convention among others. In their speeches, the PPP leaders expressed their resolve to work hard to reclaim the lost political glory of the party under the leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and Co-Chairman Asef Ali Zardari.
The first resolution said that PPP co-chairperson Mr. Asif Ali Zardari was implicated in false and fabricated corruption cases by the previous government of Mian Nawaz Sharif and he had to face trials and tribulations for 18 long years.
“Since the PPP leader has been acquitted by the Pakistani trial courts in those false cases, the prime minister should apologize to the PPP co-chairman”, said the resolution.
It further stated that Asif Ali Zardari had to face the worst form of physical torture while he was behind the bars. The family members of Asif Ali Zardari and the workers of the PPP had also suffered physical and mental agony during the previous tenures of Nawaz Sharif.
The second resolution demanded of the federal government and the country’s superior judiciary to ensure fair trial of Benazir assassination case, and that no favour should be extended to Musharraf for being an ex- army chief.
“Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had categorically declared that General Pervez Musharraf must be held responsible if she is assassinated”, it further said.
The third resolution stressed timely disposal of a presidential reference filed under Article 186 of the Constitution, challenging the conviction and sentence of PPP’s founding father and ex-prime minister the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. “This house demands from the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr Justice Anwer Zaheer Jamali to order a retrial of the murder case in which Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was executed”.
Another resolution demanded that Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan, Sirajul Haq and other such leaders should apologize to the Pakistani nation for their short vision and for having sided with the Taliban and other terrorists who killed thousands of innocent citizens and Pakistani soldiers.
“Almost two years ago, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was the only Pakistani leader who openly challenged the Taliban and demanded a massive action against them.
But leaders like Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan, Sirajul Haq took another line dubbing the Taliban as “disgruntled brothers” and insisted that talks should be held with them. However, after losing thousands of soldiers, all these political leaders today are following the vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari”, said the resolution.
The fifth resolution asked party chairman Bilawal Bhutto to come to Lahore for longer stay here to galvanize the party. It also said that minus one formula was not acceptable.
“Since there is no danger to the political system now, the PPP would play the role of an effective opposition”, it further said.
