Everyone must contribute to nation-building

LAHORE Former speaker of National Assembly Syed Fakhar Imam has said that the only way to boost the image of Pakistan at international level is that every individual of the country should perform his duties honestly. He expressed these views while addressing a seminar held under the aegis of Hameed Nizami Press Institute of Pakistan on Friday. Former minister information Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad, Mowahid Hussain, Attorney at Law, Tanveer Shehzad, correspondent Voice of Germany, Rizwanur Rehman Razi and Khalid Ahmad also spoke on the occasion. Fakhar Imam in his address said people in Pakistan were only quoting sayings of Quaid-e-Azam in their speeches and displayed his pictures in their offices but they never acted upon his sayings. He said China, Brazil and India were the emerging powers of the world in future and Pakistan must initiate such steps to compete with them. He said there was not democracy in the most of the countries of Middle East and corruption was not the issue of Pakistan only in the world. Peaceful transfer of power was never practiced in the country rather politicians always created storm in the cup of tea, he lamented. He said if our income was Rs 100 against which our expenses were Rs 150 that means we spend beyond our means. Earlier, speaking on the occasion former minister information Sheikh Rasheed said it was very unfortunate that our recognition at international level was terrorists. He said people here prefer to establish factories and more mills when they were in power rather than doing anything in national interest. He said that how could we build the image of our country better at international level when our government did not even spared our Haj pilgrims and corruption was also committed there. Sheikh Rashid later while talking to Waqt News said Nawaz Sharif must raise the issue of brutality of Indian forces and freedom of Kashimr instead of initiating political war against MQM during his visit to Muzafarabad. He condemned the language of MQM chief against Nawaz Sharif. He said President Zardari could fire Prime Minister at any time. While speaking on the seminar, Khalid Ahmad said now a days discussion on TV channels were personalities based not issues based. He said there was two types of truths one that was near an individual while other that was considered by society. He said only a balanced society could help to form a balanced media. Earlier, Director Press Institute Absar Abdul Ali threw light on the topic and welcomed the guest speakers and also performed as stage secretary.
