LAHORE - The Supreme Court has been urged to stop Tahirul Qadri and Altaf Hussain from political activities in Pakistan for being foreign nationals and unable to become the members of the parliament.
Watan Party Chairman Zafar Ullah Khan has filed the petition in the apex court Lahore registry, saying Qadri and Altaf both are foreign nationals – having nationality of UK and Canada respectively.
He said Qadri was violating Article 62 of the Constitution by not being sagacious, righteous and honest man. He said Justice Akhtar Hassan’s commission found Qadri a person who arranged alleged murder attack on himself alleging the Punjab government on April 21, 1990.
“Now Qadri has threatened to break up democratic set up,” he added. He said he was violating Article 6, 8, 9, 62, 17, and 67 of the Constitution. He said he had made case against himself of high treason by inciting army and inviting judiciary in caretaker set up before elections.
He said the both ‘foreign funded’ political parties with their foreign heads having intentions to destabilise Pakistan with their illegal and unconditional acts. He said their efforts were to delay the elections whereas the Election Commission of Pakistan was all set to hold the elections on time.
Khan said Qadri must discard foreign nationality and stop his foreign funded NGO Minhajul Quran and had to show loyalty with Pakistan and then registered his political party and submit its accounts and hold election in his party.
He prayed the court to stop any foreign national from heading any political party in Pakistan. He also prayed for directions that head of any political party must be member of the parliament.
Also, the Lahore High Court (LHC) directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) chairman to ensure consultation with its board members over various authority related issues.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah was hearing a petition challenging the appointment of Farooq Awan as PTA chairman.
Barrister Ali Raza moved the petition submitting that submitted Farooq Awan was appointed on political grounds while his appointment was also a violation of rules and regulations.
He contended that ministry of information and technology had also advertised the post inviting applications for it.
Not only this, the chairman also ignored the PTA’s board members while making policy decisions and did consult with them, the petitioners pointed out.
The requested the court to declare null and void the appointment of PTA’s chairman. The chairman also be directed to consult with PTA’s board members in policy making decisions, he added.
Justice Shah turned the request of nullifying the appointment. However, the court directed the chairman to ensure consultation process with the PTA’s board members.
The court will resume hearing on January 15.
SUSPENDED: The LHC suspended transfer orders of a Superintendent Engineer (SE) from Lesco to Pepco.
Justice Muhammad Khalid Mahmood Khan passed the orders on a petition moved by Mujahid Islam, a SE at Lesco.
He submitted that he was actively taking actions against electricity theft. But, due to pressure tactics of thieves, he had been transferred through a notification to Pepco.
The petitioner pointed out that a SE could not be transferred to Pepco from Lesco as per the company rules and regulations.
He requested the court to declare the transfer notification as illegal and unlawful.
After hearing initial arguments, Justice Khan suspended the notification differing the hearing for indefinite period.
