LAHORE - Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has pointed out the importance of wicket-keeping in the team's win. Talking to journalists here at the Gaddafi Stadium during the emerging players programme, the former wicket-keeper said that a player behind the wickets plays a 50 per cent role in the team's win but still then coaches did not pay any special attention towards wicket-keepers training. He further stated that Pakistan has a good lot of wicket-keepers and only with hard work they can be world class. "If they are properly trained they would improve their skills manifold," he added. He said that a junior wicket-keeper should also be given one or two matches along with a senior player. "We would raise the confidence level of the player by inducting him in the team with the seniors," he added. He believed that by opening the innings the performance of the wicket-keeper is effected because the fitness level of Pakistan cricketers is not to the levels of international players of other countries. "But the academies programme is improving the fitness of the players," said he.
