Liaquat Ali Khan's 115th birth anniversary today

LAHORE - The 115th birth anniversary of Shaheede Millat, Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan will be observed throughout the country today (October 1) with all reverence and respect for this noble soul and close associate of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah during and after the Pakistan Movement. Different, political, social and intellectual organisations, NGOs as well as labour unions have arranged seminars, symposiums and discussions in various parts of the country to pay homage to the services of Liaquat Ali Khan, who was also first prime minister of the newly-born state of Pakistan. A prominent leader of All India Muslim League, Liaquat Ali Khan, always stood shoulder to shoulder with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the struggle for independence and his role in the creation of Pakistan would never be undermined. The Quaid also respected and regarded him as his most trusted associate. During the interim in India in 1946, Liaquat Ali Khan made a very mark for himself as finance minister by presenting a highly balanced and poor friendly budget, which was then, deemed as a big challenge for any one on this post. As first prime minister of Pakistan, Liaquat Ali Khan, confronted big challenges, the most serious of them was of a poor state of national economy, settlement of the refuges and migrates from India and to cater to the need of a good administrative system in the country. He was given the title of Quaid-e-Millat during his life and Shaheede Millat posthumously. Liaquat was a graduate of Aligarh Muslim University and Oxford University and Middle Temple, London. He rose into prominence within the Muslim League during the 1930s. Significantly, he is credited with persuading Quaid-e-Azam to return to India, an event which marked the beginning of the Muslim Leagues ascendancy and paved the way for the Pakistan Movement. Following the passage of the Pakistan Resolution in 1940, Liaquat Ali Khan assisted Jinnah in campaigning for the creation of a separate state for Indian Muslims. Liauqat Ali Khan was assassinated when he was addressing a public meeting at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi in 1951. He was buried in Karachi in the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
