LAHORE - The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) has sent a notice to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on illegal installation of three meters at his Zaman Park residence in GOR sub-division of the company.
“The installation of three meters at single owner’s residence is illegal as per company’s rule. PTI chairman has been asked to explain the matter within 10 days,” said an official of the Lesco.
It was learnt that the Lesco had sent notice to Imran Khan on direction of Water and Power Ministry. In case of failure to submit a satisfactory response within time limit, the electricity supply would be disconnected at PTI Chairman’s residence, added the official.
Talking on the matter, another official of the Lesco seeking anonymity told TheNation that though it was illegal but installation of two or three meters in Lahore’s posh areas and other localities was a common practice.
“The domestic consumers installed more than one meter at their residences with connivance of the company staff to avoid heavy billing. The installation of more than one meter through different electricity supply lines to avoid load shedding problem is also a common practice which is widely exercised by police stations, police offices, major buildings and powerful domestic consumers not only in Lesco’s limits but also across the country.
“Installation of three meters at Zaman Park residence of Imran is illegal but sending explanation notice to PTI chief at the moment is looking mere a political move by the Lesco at the direction of the government,” added the official.
He suggested that Lesco should remove all dual electricity installations without any discrimination in its limits as it would help decrease load shedding and increase company revenue.
Meanwhile, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi has paid the electricity bills for his house in Gulberg.
Lesco teams would visit the residence of PTI leaders Ijaz Chaudhry, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, Aslam Iqbal, Aleem Khan and others to confirm that whether they had paid their electricity bills or not. The electricity supply to any consumer on non-payment of bill would be disconnected as per the company rules, said the Lesco official.
