Anti-democratic forces propagating against PPP: Badr

LAHORE - Secretary General, Pakistan Peoples Party Jehangir Badr has said that anti-people and anti-democracy forces are involved in character assassination of PPP Co-Chairman and party's presidential candidate Asif Ali Zardari. Addressing a "Welcome Zardari rally" at The Mall on Sunday, he said these forces did not want democracy to flourish in the country only to achieve their ulterior motives. He appealed to the PML-N leadership not to fell into the trap of such elements, and rejoin the coalition to strengthen democracy in the country. Badr said Asif Zardari was symbol of federation as he had got the support of majority of members in the four provincial assemblies, the National Assembly and the Senate. Addressing the rally, which had been organised by local PPP leader Aslam Gill, party's Punjab General Secretary, Ghulam Abbas said that those criticising PPP chief Asif Ali Zardari for contesting presidential election were the production of dictatorship and knew nothing about democracy. He said the office of president has to be political, and there was nothing wrong in it if President's House becomes centre of political activities after the elections. He criticised PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, saying that he talks of independent judiciary, but his presidential candidate Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui is the one who masterminded attack on Supreme Court building in 1998. He said PPP organisations would take out "Welcome Zardari rallies" across the province from Monday (today) that would continue till the presidential elections. Local party leader Ashraf Ejaz Gill said that party has organised a big fireworks show in the City on the night of September 6 to celebrate the anticipated victory of Asif Ali Zardari in the presidential election. DCO dismisses Market committee inspectors DCO Sajjad Bhutta has dismissed the Market Committee's two sub inspectors as well as two assistant sub inspectors due to their negligence while performing their duty at Ramazan Bazaar. According to a press release issued here on Sunday, the DCO while visiting Ramazan Bazaar at Delhi Gate inspected the vegetables and fruit stalls and inquired about the rates. He ordered the suspension of market committee's four officials besides arresting two shopkeepers who were charging extra rates and hiding the sacks of onions and potatoes.
