Lahore - Speakers at a seminar yesterday said the Western civilization completed its natural life of leading the world and shedding deep impact.
“Its demise is written on the wall. Instead of following it, do research and discover new horizons,” said the speakers, while addressing a seminar on “Status of Muslims and (Muslim States) in world scenario–21st Century’s Imperatives” at Hameed Nizami Press Instititue of Pakistan.
Former foreign minister Sardar Aseff presided over the program while Dr Farid Ahmad Piracha and Dr Ejaz Butt were the guests of honour.
Speakers included senior journalist Taseer Mustafa and Lawyers Foundation for Justice president Syed Feroze Shah Gillani. HNPIP Director Absar Abdul Ali was the moderator.
Sardar Aseff said we should discuss such critical issues and try to find their solution. He said what Muslim world faced in Syria, Iraq, Turkey, Palestine and Kashmir, he was grieved over it.
“I am not internationalist,” said Asif, adding that we became stakeholders in international affairs and indulged in war. “We should decide now on the war on terror, otherwise, it would be too late. ‘Do more’ will only damage us more,” he further emphasised.
“What is the fruit of this war,” he asked. “We only justify a war that gulped 60000 precious lives of Pakistanis.”
Farid Piracha said it was a time when Muslim scholars were leading in science and technology. “Today, we have population and resources, atomic power too. The Muslims have 11 trillion dollars of the world. But, another side is very dark. We are facing deaths, threats, and anarchy."
The JI leader urged the Muslim world to spend more on education and research - the key to progress.
Syed Feroze Shah Gillani said politics affects all sectors of life. “The need is to rectify political parties in the country. For five hundred years Muslim have been facing inertia, contrary to the promotion of Islamic culture.”
Once Muslims were leading in science and Christians stood nowhere. Then, he said, we stopped thinking and indulged in futile activities.
He called for implementing the system the Quaid wanted that was Islamic and democratic.
Taseer Mustafa said our media misled on many occasions and set their agenda. “A channel reflected interior minister’s letter to London as sent by Nawaz Sharif. The same is true about international media.”
Citing a leading news item, Mustafa said Pakistan was out of the peace making process in Afghanistan that was alarming. “Why the leading Muslims in science are downtrodden these days, is the question we should answer. Today we can't name one of the leading Muslims scientists.”
“A tragedy of Muslim world is one country was the enemy of the other. When Russian attacked Afghanistan, Muslim world opposed. When the same was done by the US we supported it,” he held.
