LAHORE Remington Pharma and Sea Gold launched their campaign in the Nurpur Cup with convincing wins following a brief hiatus at the Lahore Polo Club. Amid the December haze and chill, indolent ponies slowly and steadily gathered momentum coming into the strides around the sunset. The man in prime form was Ahmed Nawaz Tiwana who hammered six goals in Remington Pharmas huge 9-5 1/2 goals win over Habib Metropolitan Bank. The result amply demonstrated the belief that a side with one match-winner weighs heavier over a quartet of middle handicappers. Tiwana and Usman Haye dominated most of the time in Remington Pharmas overwhelming performance. Banks Raja Amer Khan opened the match with field goal followed very soon with another field goal from Faisal Shahzad. With 2-0 down, Remington Pharmas Ahmed Nawaz Tiwana came into his element and hit two field goals - one being solo effort after long chase. The match was 2-2 tied when the second chukker started and now it was Usmans turn. He hammered a field goal with exquisite cut shot followed with an undefended 30-yarder. Tiwana made no error when asked to hit a 60-yarder taking the score to 4-2. The third chukker saw Tiwana hitting a hat-trick showing his all round performance. Samee Ibrahim and Raja Amer Khan led a bit of fight back but not it was too late here. With 8-4 1/2 score, it was already a lost battle for Bankers. Raja Amer Khan hit a field goal and so did Ahmed Nawaz Tiwana. Jawad Jamil Malik and Atif Tiwana officiated the match. In the other match of the day, Sea Gold romped home with 6 a 6 5 1/2 over Fresh Water. Shiraz Qureshi hit two goals for Sea Gold. Agha Murtaza Ali Khan and Adnan Jalil Azam served as umpires.
