Plea seeking disqualification of MPA dismissed

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - Justice Umar Ata Bandial of the Lahore High Court on Friday dismissed for non prosecution an election petition which was filed earlier to seek disqualification of PML-Q MPA Munawar Hussain Manj alleging that he was possessing a fake BA degree. An independent candidate Khalid Mehmood Virk, who lost election in PP-166 Sheikhupura to the MPA, had filed the petition. A senior lawyer Khalid Ranjha on behalf of Mr Manj appeared before the court and pleaded that over the last many hearings neither petitioner nor his counsel had been appearing that showed that the petitioner was no more interested in the case. He requested the court to dismiss the election petition for being not pursued. It is pertinent to mention here that on courts order AJK University had filed its report and confirmed that the MPA Manj used unfair means to obtain a BA degree from the university. The report said that the person who took BA examination of year 2003 under roll number 7379 was not Munawar Hussain Manj but was impersonated by someone else. That candidate admitted before university syndicate that the signature in the centre attendance sheet was not his, therefore, unfair means had been used in examination.
