PML-Q will surrender Opp for PPP, says Ch Zaheer

LAHORE - PML-Q would surrender the office of opposition leader in Punjab Assembly as soon as the PPP nominates its candidate, said Ch Zaheerud Din, opposition leader in the provincial assembly, on Tuesday. Talking to TheNation over vacating the slot of opposition leader after PPP ministers ouster from the provincial cabinet, he said PPP had majority in the assembly to lay its claim over the slot of opposition leader and he would welcome them on the opposition benches. He said partys provincial president, Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi happily handed over the position of opposition leader in National Assembly when the PML-N left the PPP government and showed its majority in the Parliament for taking the lead role of opposition. Meanwhile, the PPPs parliamentary party in Punjab Assembly met here on Tuesday to discuss its future role in the assembly. Partys Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warraich who chaired the meeting supported the case of ex-senior minister Raja Riaz for the office of Opposition Leader. As per assembly rules of procedure, it is prerogative of the speaker to nominate an assembly member as Leader of the Opposition who in his opinion commands confidence of majority of members of his parliamentary party.
