Youth guns down female classmate


LAHORE – A youth shot dead his 20-year-old classmate outside a private academy, shortly after he exchanged hot words with her over some issue in Nishtar Colony area, police said on Thursday afternoon. The police have arrested the killer and put him behind the lockup.
Police investigators said that the youth, identified as Abdul Rehman, snatched gun from the security guard and shoot the girl. Resident of Nishtar Colony, Noreen Bibi, daughter of a police constable Muhammad Anwar, sustained serious bullet wounds and was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
However, the accused told the police that the gun went off accidentally when he was handing it over to the guard.
Eyewitnesses said that the students at the academy were seen literally in tears while many of them were crying and screaming as they witnessed the girl lying in a pool of blood right at the entrance of the tuition center. The students were leaving the Baab-e-Irqam Academy after the tuition classes when all of a sudden, the youth snatched gun from the security guard of the teaching center and shoot Noreen, said to be a BA student.
The police later reached the spot and arrested the youth and the security guard. The police have also removed the body to the morgue for an autopsy and are investigating. No case was registered till filing of this report. Man commits suicide:  A 28-year-old youth committed suicide by shooting himself in the temple here in Manawan area, police said on Thursday. The family told the police that the reasons, which compelled the youth to kill himself, are not clear yet.
Muhammad Tufail told the police that his son Muhammad Waris came back home, situated near Chandni Chowk, late on Wednesday night and went to the bedroom.
He locked the bedroom from inside, took out pistol, and shot himself in the temple. He died instantly. The police reached the spot and collected evidences from the crime scene.
Police said that they are investigating to know the reason behind the self-murder. Further investigations were underway. Punjab Police smashes gangs: Investigations police on Thursday claimed to have smashed six robbery gangs by arresting 25 members during the last 14 days.
Police spokesman, Azhar Naveed told The Nation that investigators had also traced 34 cases of robberies and dacoities while the police also recovered looted valuables worth two million rupees from the arrested bandits. He further said that the arrested criminals were wanted by the police in several cases of murder, robbery and auto-lifting.
The Punjab police have launched a massive crackdown against hardened criminals at the orders of IGP Haji Habib-ur-Rehman and special police teams have been constituted in this regard.
