Plea against officials of Religious Affairs Ministry

LAHORE - A petition has been filed before the Lahore High Court against Ministry of Religious Affairs Federal Secretary Shaukat Hayat Durrani, Joint Secretary of the Ministry Hafiz Sher Ali and seven others to seek contempt of court action against them on the plea they failed to adhere to this court order of July last. The petition has been filed by one Muhammad Qasim, a private Haj tour organiser through Muhammad Azhar Siddique contending that the respondents did not abide by the court direction given through the said order which impliedly restrained the ministry from interfering in the affairs of the private Haj tour organisers. By implication of the said decision, the Chief Executive of the tour oganising companies was authorised to seek applications for performance of the Haj. But the respondent officials, allegedly accepted the Haj applications which were received by directors of his companies, leaving him aside. The petitioner contends that he being major share holder in the company, he was quite competent to invite Haj applications which the respondents were bound to follow. The petitioner said the Bench of Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed through an order on his petition on July 16 had held neither party could convinced the court that the in the resolution of the disputes arisen between the Directors/shareholders of the Company, the Ministry of Religious Affairs was vested with the jurisdiction to pass any order. The petitioner alleged that respondents committed contempt of the court by recognising a director of his company Sajjad Qasim, and sending persons for Haj he booked while denying those booked by the petitioner.
