LAHORE - The PML-N government has slighted the prediction made by former military-ruler Pervez Musharraf about imminent ‘change’ in the country.
Replying to a question by The Nation on Wednesday, Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid said that it was not more than a political statement by the former dictator which did not have any significance.
The information minister giving a curt and short answer said that it was not divine what Musharraf said.
The minister parried the answer to question when asked to comment on Pervez Musharraf’s offer to support the government, provided it delivers.
While addressing his supporters through video link on the Foundation Day of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), former General-cum-President predicted about change in the country in near future. The former president was of the view that some technocrat government could come into being and there would be no election after that. He said this while counting failures of the PML-N government, whose continuation would perilous for the country and the nation.
But the government has rubbished the statement of Musharraf as political utterance which does not have any practical value.
Pervez Musharraf at the moment is facing high treason trial for his PCO and state of emergency on November 3, 2007; and his political activity is mostly confined to indoors although officially there is not restriction on his free movement within the country.
Musharraf has a bar on his travel abroad on account of his name on the Exit Control List (ECL). Musharraf who enjoyed carte blanche for nine years from October 1999 to September 2008 in power, has made the prophecy of change in the country at a time when the political divide is sharp and situation is unpredictable on the part of the political parties against the backdrop of protest dharna of PTI and PAT against the government and the last election.
