LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Wednesday summoned the Housing and Urban Development secretary over a contempt of court petition. Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan was hearing the case.
Naveed Zia, who is engineer with Housing and Urban Development Department, filed the contempt petition and submitted that he had filed a petition before this court against his transfer made on political basis.
Accepting his plea, the court ordered secretary concerned to modify the order of petitioner’s transfer. The secretary, instead of complying with the court order, suspended the officer from service, said the petitioner. He said the department deprived him of his job by violating the court orders which was contempt of court.
The petitioner pleaded the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the secretary. However, a law officer on behalf of the secretary housing told the court that transfer and suspension of the officer was an administrative and policy matter and court could not interfere into such policy matters of the departments.
As this the court, warned the law officer while issuing show cause notice to the secretary housing. The court also directed him to appear in the court in person on next date of hearing. The proceedings adjourned till April 7.
