Joint efforts against dengue stressed

LAHORE - Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Kh Salman Rafiq has stressed the need for making collective efforts for controlling dengue.
Talking to the newsmen after monitoring drive at Directorate General Health office for removing dengue hot spots on Sunday, he appealed the masses to carryout campaign at their houses for controlling the menace.
Cleanliness day has been observed at government departments to check breeding of mosquitoes. DG Health Punjab Dr Zahid Pervaiz and Additional Director General Dengue Control Dr Islam Zafar were also present.
Kh Salman Rafiq inspected rooftop of DGHS building. He directed immediate shifting of condemn articles to a safe place to avoid accumulation of rainwater, main source of mosquitoes breeding. He said that other government departments have also taken measures which resulted in complete control on dengue. However, continuous rains and lowering of temperature have increased the possibilities of dengue outbreak. Government departments and people should remain vigilant and continue cleanliness activities in their offices and residences, he said. He said that FIR has been launched against commercial buildings, junkyards, construction sites and tyre shops on detection of dengue larwa. However, district governments’ official placed stickers on the door of the houses from where larva was detected to exert moral pressure on inmates. He said that SOPs of dengue control were applicable on government buildings and action has also been taken for violation of dengue regulations.
Meanwhile, Kh Salman Rafiq visited Mayo Hospital and reviewed the cleanliness campaign. Dr Zahid Pervaiz, MS Dr Amjed Shehzad and other administrative doctors were also present. He directed immediate drainage of the rainwater accumulated on roads. He said that targeted mosquito spray and fogging was also allowed to eliminate mosquitoes breeding sites.
Meanwhile, Post Graduate Medical Institute/Lahore General Hospital has issued a booklet for creating public awareness about dengue and precautionary measures.
Principal PGMI Prof Khalid Mahmood said that dengue was more social issue than medical and every citizen should took part in curbing it. He said that by ensuring cleanliness one can ensure prevention from dengue and other diseases. He appealed the media persons to highlight the steps taken for preventing the masses from diseases especially dengue.
WALK AGAINST DENGUE: Punjab Mines and Minerals Department Sunday observed Anti-Dengue Day to create awareness of precautionary measures for dengue among the people.
All departments, Chief Inspectorate of Mines / Mines Labour Welfare Organization, Directorate General, PUNJMIN and Punjab Mineral Company including Administrative Department of Punjab Mines & Minerals Department arranged seminar and walk in different parts of the province and distributed pamphlets to raise awareness of the disease.
Additional Secretary Mines & Minerals Raja Khurram Shahzad addressed the seminar and briefed the participant about the awareness and precautionary measures for the dengue fever in monsoon. He told the audience to keep their houses, particularly their bathrooms clean and regularly spray insecticide to keep mosquitoes away and removal of junk from roofs of houses is essential during rainy season. He further said that the Punjab Government is taking interest in eradicating the dengue virus and all credit goes to the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Shareef.
Eng. Muhammad Siddique Ch. (CIM / MLWC), Zubair Khral (Secretary PUNJMIN), Malik Muhmmad Nawaz Director Mines & Minerals also addressed to the participants. In the end, a dengue awareness walk was held on the road of Poonch House during which pamphlets were distributed among the people.
