EDO flouts Secy Health orders

LAHORE - Executive District Officer Health Omer Baloch has failed in implementing the orders of Punjab secretary health regarding transfer of fumigation staff of the health department presently posted in the food department of city district government on deputation; insiders informed TheNation on Thursday. A number of officials of fumigation squads are serving in the homes of health and food departments officers, they added. Postings of technical fumigation and insecticide spray staff in other departments of CDG is one of the major reason of breakdown of the fumigation campaign in the city and failure in controlling dengue, they said, adding this negligence on the part of authorities concerned claimed dozens of lives of dengue patients because non-technical staff was unable to manage the fumigation campaign. Among these non-technical officials, mostly Naib Qasids of dispensaries, peons and office boys were totally unaware about the technicalities of fumigation and the exact target locations. The main ditches of mosquitoes were regularly fumigated by the technical staff but this time these locations could not be sprayed properly, they added. The sources in the health department further said some officials namely Munir Ahmad, Malik Muzaffar, Mirza Sabir and others earlier were performing duties in the health department as Malaria Baildars and were part of the insecticide spray squads. But now they have been upgraded as Daroghas in the food department and also known blue-eyed of the EDO Health as well as money minting machines for their seniors, they added. They further said Secretary Health Punjab Fawad Hussan on receiving some complaints in this regard had issued directions to the EDO health to take the Malaria Baildars back in the health department and depute them on fumigation campaign because of their expertise in this field. On which, the EDO issued orders of transfers of such officials but later he withdrew his orders in the recommendations of district officer health and district officer food. They said such officials were posted in the food department on the orders of former EDO Health Dr Fayyaz Ranjha. It may be mention here he had been suspended on the orders of the Punjab chief secretary on account of his failure in controlling fumigation campaign and alleged misappropriations in the purchase of insecticides and inquiries against him in this regard were under way.
