GCU convocation today

LAHORE- The ninth convocation of the Government College University Lahore (GCU) is going to be held on Friday (today) at the universitys Bokhari Auditorium. About 900 students from graduation to PhD would receive degrees, academic medals and Roll of Honor this year at the convocation. The University will award the prestigious medals to its 22 best students for their outstanding performance in academic work and co-circular activities, while doctorate degrees would be awarded to 31 scholars in various subjects this year. As many as 167 students would be awarded MPhil degrees this year. The GCU Controller Examination said that the position-holders and post-graduate students would be awarded degrees at the Convocation, while remaining students would receive degrees at the Degree Awarding Ceremony on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Government College University Horticulture Society has won three-day Annual Chrysanthemum Flower Show 2010 organised by the Pakistan Horticulture Society (PHA) at the Racecourse Park. The GCU Horticulture Society outshined students from scores of educational institutions and won 10 of total 12 positions in the contest, while the remaining two positions were secured by the Kinnaird College, Lahore. In As You Like category, Rida Zia won the first position, while Saadia Iqbal and Quratul Ain secured the second and third positions. In Japanese Style category, Quratul Ain bagged the first position, while, Rida Zia and Saadia Iqbal stood second and third. In Corner Table, Rida Zia won the first position, while Iqra Abbass of Kinnaird College secured both second and third positions in the category. In Centre Table, Quratul Ain won the first position, while Saadia Iqbal and Shafaq Amir were declared second and third. GCU Horticulture Society Adviser Dr Zaheerud Khan lauding the efforts of the university students, said the society had presented more that 32 models at the flower show.
