Kashmir issue resolvable through dialogue: Dr Vaidik

LAHORE -

Council for Indian Foreign Policy Chairman Dr VP Vaidik on Sunday said that the Kashmir issue is resolvable through dialogue among Pakistan and India.
While addressing a session “Future of Indo-Pak relations” at TECH Society Club, he said “Independence of both India and Pakistan could be jeopardized and changed to slavery due to lack of financial resources and land locked area of Kashmir. I appeal to Pakistanis and Indians to take practical measures by withdrawing troops from Kashmir as a first step to initiate peaceful dialogues. We are in favour of freedom of Kashmiris but not their separation from us. Solution of terrorism also lies in negotiations, which is not possible until America stop drone attacks.”
Dr VP Vaidik said that only a few Indians had not accepted partition of India and Pakistan but it did not mean that they were in favour of any kind of loss to Pakistan.
Prof Dr Mugheesud Din Sheikh, Dr Muhammad Sadiq, Zubair Sheikh, Engr. Abdul Majeed Khan, Qayyum Nizami, Engr Muhammad Azeem, Jameel Gishkori, Justice (retd) Sharif Hussain Bokhari, Engr Mahmudur Rehman Chughtai, Sardar Muhammad Saeed Khan, Prof Dr Atiya Syed, Col (retd) ZI Farrukh and other members were present at the occasion.
Zubair Sheikh said that confidence building measures were necessary to resolve issues between India and Pakistan for which intellectuals of both countries could play a pivotal role.
Dr Mugheesud Din Sheikh at the session said that until the Indians stop claiming Kashmir as their integral part the issue could not be resolved.
Justice (retd) Sharif Hussain Bokhari said that he had listened to only a few Indians who were in favour of resolving Kashmir issue and Dr Vaidik was one of them.
To the question of strategic partnership between India and USA, raised by Col Farrukh, Dr Vaidik said that being a major regional power, India had its own significance. Qayyum Nizami said that when Indian prisoners were released from Pakistani jails they proceeded to India with better health and fitness as compared to the mentally and physically tortured Pakistani prisoners released by India.
