LAHORE – A high level delegation from the United Kingdom headed by Mr Andrew Mitchell, British Minister of the state on Development, called on PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz here on Friday.
Other members of the delegation included Sir Michael Barber- Department for International Development’s Special Representative on Education for Pakistan, Mr. Adam Thomson-British High Commissioner, Mr. George Turkington- Head of DFID Pakistan, Mr. Richard Parr- Special Adviser to the Secretary of State, Mr. Vel Gnanendran- Private Secretary to the Secretary of State, Mark Bowman-Director General DFID, Tom Owen Edmunds- DFID representative.
Both sides discussed the issues of bilateral interests and mutual cooperation especially in the field of education and the development related to this sector.
The CM Punjab informed the delegation about the reforms which the PML-N government in Punjab has introduces to provide the quality education, increase the enrollment of students in the schools, provide standard and high quality education to the poor in Danish schools, initiatives to bring transparency in the process of teachers’ induction with special reference to the procedures adopted for the induction of 36000 educators across the province, improve the infrastructure of educational institution and teachers training program. The CM also briefed the delegation about the measures taken by the government of Punjab to create a harmony between the public and private educational institution and the cooperation between the non-government and the government sector in the field of education.
Nawaz Sharif on the occasion thanked the delegation of DFID about its extended cooperation and support to improve the education system in the Punjab.
The delegation lauded the role of the government of Punjab.
