KC students to submit charter of demands

LAHORE - The students of Kinnaird College will submit their charter of demands that mainly focuses on their call for reduction in fees and provision of better facilities to the students on Monday to the Vice Principal Dr Nighat Khan, students protesting against the hike in fees told The Nation. On the assurance of the vice principal two days earlier the students on Friday did not hold any protest demonstration against increase in fees. On Thursday the college was closed due to May Day holiday. The vice principal on Friday chaired a meeting that was attended by deans and senior teachers. The meeting discussed the issue of the raise in fees and the students' protest in this regard. No final decision with regard to the fee issue was taken, as Principal Dr Mira Phailbus is not in Pakistan these days. Saturday being the holiday now the students are expected to meet the vice principal on Monday. Besides the demand for decreasing the fees the students have also come up with some other demands. These include freedom to use cell phones and iPods in the college as well as freedom to enter and exit college gates at will. The students are also calling for more extra-curricular activities in the college and installation of TV at the college cafT. The students say summer has arrived and since the college was charging high fees it should have the classes air-conditioned. There was shortage of classrooms in the recent past and the students have demanded more rooms where the classes could be held. The last demand is likely to be immediately considered since the construction of a building comprising of new classrooms is complete. Dreams of Tipu Sultan staged The play 'Dreams of Tipu Sultan' was presented by students of LGS, JT (Senior Branch) at Ali Auditorium the other day. This one hour 30 minute play was highly appreciated by the audience. The play was prepared in 20 days. This fact alone reflects the dedication and hard work of the crew and cast. First scene provided a great start to the play while the last scene marked a beautiful ending here. M. Umair Asghar acting in the play was highly appreciated. Principal Mrs Samina Rehman and Mrs Faiqa Afzal appreciated the presentation of the play.
