LAHORE - Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust Chairman Rafique Tarar said that late Dr Majid Nizami held national interest supreme. He professed what he thought was just even before the repressive rulers.
Addressing the participants at a special ceremony celebrating the 87th birth anniversary of the former Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust chairman late Dr Majid Nizami, Tarar said, since his student life, there existed an abiding connection between his personal and national life. As a student, he worked for the Pakistan Movement and, in the 1946 election; he campaigned vigorously for the triumph of the Muslim League. His pen served him as a sword.

The editors including Dr Majid Nizami met Yahya Khan who told them to go and fight the cases against them. It was only Dr Majid Nizami who stood up and asked the dictator where the editors should fight the cases against them. Yahya Khan replied, “In the military courts!” Dr Majid Nizami said that the military hadn’t the slightest idea what law was. On this there was a pin-drop silence which lasted till the end of the meeting. Ironically, Dr Majid Nizami said, it was East Pakistani editors who congratulated him on his standing up to a dictator, whereas the West Pakistani editors were afraid that these bold remarks of Dr Majid Nizami might cause them trouble.
