N welcomes SC decision on contempt law

LAHORE – The PML-N has welcomed the Supreme Court decision against the new Contempt of Court Law and said the party would not be part of the government if it ventured to frustrate the decision through the parliament or any other means except the constitutional one.
PML-N Central Information Secretary Mushidullah Khan giving his reaction to the SC decision said the supreme court had in fact struck down a legislation which did not meet the four corners of law and aimed at protecting a certain class of people which was contrary to the fundamental rights given to the citizens in the constitution.
He said the impugned legislation was pregnant with male fide intents of the government to undermine independence of judiciary and to restrain it from exercising its powers. He said the impugned law was an attempt to pit one state institution against the other as such it intended to stoke only chaos in the country.
Mushahiddullah said the best way with the government given the situation, was to the write letter to the Swiss authorities in compliance with the court direction otherwise the sitting prime minister was very much open to the same treatment which his predecessor was served.
He said if the incumbent prime minister was also shown the door, the best course would be fresh elections instead of appointing another prime minister. He said fresh elections also match with the six-point the SC had prescribed as options to impellent the NRO decision.
