LAHORE- The dissident PPP couple, Naheed Khan and Safdar Abbasi would announce their future strategy on December 6 at a workers’ convention in Lahore.
In an informal chat with a group of journalists here, the two leaders asked Asif Ali Zardari to quit the party and hand over its reins to its real heirs by holding intra-party elections.
“It is time to save the party by rising above the personality clout”, said Naheed Khan who also unveiled the plan to unite all the ideological workers and leaders on one platform by launching a mass movement for the purpose.
“The December 6 event at Aiwan-e-Iqbal would later transform into a mass movement to save the party of Shaheed Z.A Bhutto and Shaheed BB”, Safdar Abbasi told reporters. He said many ideological and committed party men were in touch with them to lend their support.
Naheed added that they did not acknowledge any body as legitimate leader except the two Bhuttos who had sacrificed their lives for the rights of the downtrodden. She said new leadership should emerge from within the party hardcore as a result of intra-party polls.
Asked if her differences with Asif Ali Zardari would come to an end if he quits the party, Naheed replied this was not the issue. “We want party workers to elect their leadership”, she maintained. To a question about accepting Bilawal as party head, she said he was not politically mature as yet. “He should go through the political process her mother had been through before assuming the party command”, she said.
