Workshop for development of aquaculture production

LAHORE - A workshop will be organized by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Pakistan in collaboration with Department of Fisheries, Punjab under Technical Cooperation Programme for a project “Promotion of Good Aquaculture Practices in Farming of Carps and Other Potential Finfish in Punjab and Balochistan Provinces”.
The workshop will be held on January 4 (Monday) at a local hotel. The objective of the workshop is to make successful implementation of the TCP project and dissemination of the project will make significant contribution to sustainable development of aquaculture production in Pakistan.
It would ultimately contribute to national food security and nutrition, and rural livelihood enhancement in the country. Provincial fisheries heads, officers, fish farmers and all other stakeholders would participate in the workshop to exchange their views for promotion of aquaculture and foreign FAO delegates would also participate in the event.
The project will be implemented in the selected areas of two provinces i.e Punjab and Balochistan, in collaboration with Department of Fisheries, Punjab and Department of Fisheries, Balochistan, Pakistan Agriculture Research Council and Pakistan Fisheries Development Board.
It is actually first time that FAO has approved a project for promotion of Fisheries & Aquaculture in the Punjab province.
Technical guidelines and operation manual of good aquaculture practices will be developed based on the review of current status of carp farming in Pakistan and current aquaculture practices in other Asian countries.
