Flanked by special children, District Coordination Officer Rizwan Mehboob inaugurated the Gawalmandi Food Street on Friday.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the DCO said praised shopkeepers’ part for reopening of the food street, saying that the tradesperson renovated the area on the basis of self-help. He further said that the restoration of food-street would help in highlighting the culture of the city.
Lahore Walled City Project
Calling the Lahore Walled City Project vital, Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sethi has stressed the need for furthering this project effectively.
“The Walled City is a historical and cultural heritage and all-out measures should be adopted for its restoration and conservation. Proper planning is necessary for implementation of Lahore Walled City Project while steps should also be taken for checking construction of the new buildings,” he said while presiding over a meeting to review the project at Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Friday.
Health Minister Salima Hashmi, Yousaf Sallahuddin, Nayyar Ali Dada, Faqir Syed Saifuddin and officials concerned were present. Director General of Lahore Walled City Project Kamran Lashari briefed the meeting about the pace of project. The chief minister directed that recommendations should be submitted to him in the next meeting for controlling commercialisation of the Walled City. Sethi said conservation and maintenance of the historical sites is national responsibility and all-out measures should be adopted for this purpose.
