Joint Pak-India efforts stressed

LAHORE – PPP Secretary General Jahangir Badr and eminent Indian liver transplant surgeon Dr AS Soin on Saturday announced to launch joint efforts for dealing with hepatitis in a bid to increase people-to-people contacts for easing the tensions between the two nuclear neighbours, besides benefiting from each other’s medical expertise.
Addressing a joint press conference at the Lahore Press Club, Badr and Dr Soin also announced formation of the Pak-India Liver Care Forum for helping the patients of the two countries in the prevention and cure of the liver-related diseases.
Badr said that the purpose of the initiative was to strengthen relations between the two neighbours by taking care of their people through joint efforts of medical experts.
Dr Soin said that the people living on both sides of the border had several common issues in the field of health and that they should benefit from each other’s expertise to provide medical care to the patients, besides normalisation of relations between the two countries.
Responding to a query, Dr Soin said that he, along with local health professionals, would also perform liver transplant in Pakistan if needed to provide relief to the patients. Replying to a question, Badr said that he would talk to the government for facilitating the patients in quick issuance of visas for treatment.
