Petition seeking trial by special bench rejected

LAHORE- Lahore High Court Justice Mahmood Maqbool Bajwa on Wednesday sustained the objection raised by the registrar office, and rejected the petition seeking trail of the accused of the Model Town incident by a special bench of the court and inclusion of terrorism and treason charges in the FIR registered in this regard.
Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafferi had filed the petition contending that the accused of the Model Town incident were the high-profile and influential personalities. He said the trial of the accused should be conducted by a 5-member larger bench of the LHC as it had been done in the trial of PPP patron-in-chief Zulfikar Ali Bhutto some four decades back.
The Registrar office had raised an objection on the maintainability of the petition holding that the petitioner was not the aggrieved person and could not file such a petition.
LHC ISSUES NOTICE TO PUNJAB GOVT: Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notice to Punjab government and others on a petition challenging arrest and harassment of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers, with directions to it to treat the respondents strictly in accordance with the law.
Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of the LHC was hearing the case moved by Muhammad Ateeq, Chairman Public Affairs Committee, PTI, Cantt Town and Kashif Ali Shah of DHA.
Advocate Sair Bhatti while representing the petitioners told the judge that the respondents exploited their office and authority in order to support the govt.
The petitioners said that the police station South Cantt officials in two vehicles armed with deadly weapons, some in uniform and others in civil dresses attacked the house of Ateeq on August, 31, at 03.30 a.m and all of the family members were harassed and mentally tortured. The petitioners said that the wife and 6 years old daughter were humiliated.
The building of the house and its doors were damaged while Kashif, a friend of Ateeq who was present there, was also harassed by the police, they said. They further said police took Kashif to police station and kept him confined in the premises of police station South Cantt. The petitioners prayed the court to refrain from harassing, pressurising and blackmailing the petitioners and their family members in any manner whatsoever.
He further prayed to the court that the the CCPO and SHO should be restrained from implicating the petitioners and their family members in any criminal case, in addition to, restraining them from damaging the properties owned by the petitioners.
