Walled City BoG meets


LAHORE – The Walled City Lahore Authority director general had been authorised to declare and stop the demolition of properties relevant to the WCLA, according to a decision made in the first meeting of board of governors of the authority. 
A statement said the DG was given power to regulate the registration of property owners and occupants inside the Walled City, and to ascertain the heritage status viability of properties of interest to the WCLA.
The ten-point agenda meeting included the transfer of powers to the director general, adoption of rules and regulations for the WCLA, taking over of functions of those departments already at work in the Walled City, the formation of the heritage conservation board, the citizens community council, and the trade & business council.
“The WCLA director general was authorised to approve the schemes to be executed by the authority upto Rs50 million,” the meeting added.
The WCLA was established in April 2012 to render the authority operational, it was essential to hold a meeting of the board of governors.
The board of governors includes the Punjab chief minister, the chief secretary, LG&CD secretary, finance secretary, information & culture secretary, archaeology secretary, Auqaf secretary, HUD & PHE secretary, police inspector general, TDCP managing director, Department of Archaeology Director General, along with three nominated members.
The statement said Nayyar Ali Dada, Sajjad Kausar, Faqir Saif, Yusaf Sallahuddin, Salima Hashmi, Majeed Sheikh, DG Archaeology were nominated as the members for the Heritage Conservation Board of the Walled City of Lahore Authority by the Board of  Governors.
