LAHORE  - A burnt teen maid is battling for life at Mayo Hospital, a doctor said on Friday.
Fourteen-year-old housemaid Aqsa was hospitalised last Tuesday after her masters allegedly set her on fire. Her father Abdul Razzaq told the doctors that Aqsa was working for a couple, Hassan and Maria, at Dubban Pura on Malik Munir Road of Sabzazar. 
Millat Park Police arrested Jamshed after booking four people including Hassan, Maria and Mahrukh under section 324/34. Her masters said: “Aqsa was making tea in kitchen, when her dress caught fire.”
Mayo Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Amjad Shehzad told The Nation that the victim’s 45 per cent body was burnt and she was in critical condition. “After burning of more than 40 per cent body, survival chances become bleak,” he said.
Dr Amjad said earlier the victim was treated in the West Surgical as she was in shock and then was brought to the Burn Unit. “Although she has started speaking, she has not been able to get her statement registered,” the doctor said.
According to the father of Aqsa, she has not been allowed to meet her parents for the past five years. “The couple left her at Mayo Hospital after burning her and fled away,” said father of the girl.
After the savagery came to spotlight, the government hierarchy hustled to issue handouts for doing-well. According to a handout, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of burning and sought a report from Inspector General Police. “The chief minister issued directives to bring the culprits to justice and provide the victim with best treatment,” the handout added.
According to another handout, DIG Operations Rana Abdul Jabbar directed SP Iqbal Town, Syed Tousif Haider to arrest all the accused involved in torture immediately. Punjab Chief Minister’s Health Adviser Khawja Salman Rafique visited Mayo Hospital and gave Rs20,000 to the bereaved family.
On January 20, 14-year-old housemaid Fiza Batool succumbed to her injuries after two-day treatment at Services Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. Fiza Batool, a resident of Sialkot district, had been working as a housemaid at Professor Rafique’s DHA residence for the past five years. Her master was in custody and investigation was UNDERWAY, when the teen died.
On Jan 18, Iram Ramazan, from Okara, died after she was brutally tortured by her employer Nasira and her husband Altaf. Altaf had hired Iram to work in his house for Rs2,500 a month.
Similarly, Azra, 16, who was a housemaid at a house located in Faisal Town, was tortured by three brothers and she died from her injuries. Azra was the daughter of poor labourer from a village near Pattoki.
The fate of all these cases remains unknown.
