Shahbaz pledges to promote IT in Punjab

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the setting up of IT labs in more than 4,000 schools of the province will uplift IT activities in the education sector. He said information technology park will also be constructed for same purpose and all out facilities will be extended to private sector in this regard. He expressed these views during a briefing given by senior representatives of Microsoft Chris Bunio and Kamal Ahmad regarding promotion of information technology in Punjab on Friday. Additional Chief Secretary and Secretary Information Technology were also present on the occasion. He said that private sector would be offered all out facilities for IT activities. He said information technology was essential for speedy development, therefore, government has completed IT labs project in 4,286 schools of the province at a cost of Rs5 billion in a record period of time. He said more than 3.4 million students would benefit from this project annually. He said that information technology would also be used for improving efficiency of government machinery, which will result in capacity building of government departments and solution of problems of the people expeditiously. He said government wants early completion of land record computerisation project which is pending for a long period of time. He said government was also attaching priority to the uplift of education, health, agriculture and law and order sectors and Microsoft should develop models for the improvement of these sectors. He said agreements will be signed with foreign companies in a transparent manner for the promotion of information technology in Punjab and all out facilities would be extended. Spanish delegation calls on CM A delegation from Spains leading construction companies called on consultant to Chief Minister Punjab for Economic Affairs Pir Saad Ahsanuddin on Friday to finalize a mega project of low cost housing in the province. The delegation includes Dr. David Crawford, Executive Director of UT3, a UK based business Development Company and Jesus Lopez Floria, Executive Director Barcons a leading construction company of Spain. The officials discussed the technology transfer proposals large-scale low cost housing using rapid construction technologies through joint venture with such companies. For this, Pir Saad introduces the investors to local counterparts who can be potential partner for the project. Punjab Government Servant Housing Foundation would also be part of such project as materializes.
