People protest against DHA and police

LAHORE - The residents of Fateh Jhang Singh Wala held a protest demonstration against DHA and Burki Police Station at The Mall and Queens Road and demanded of the police high ups to direct the local police to register a case against DHA security officials for injuring some villagers during cross firing. As many as two dozen villagers were carrying placards and chanting slogans against the Burki police and DHA. Women and children were also among the protestors. The protestors were of the view that the DHA officials Friday came with some armed security officials and tried to take illegal possession of a graveyard and also a passage leading to the village, which the DHA officials wanted to block They also accused the Burki police of torturing, thrashing and manhandling the women of the village. The policemen lead by Burki SHO bundled the male and female villagers in police vans and took them to the police station, they further alleged. Heavy contingent of the police lead by SP Civil Lines reached at the spot and held negations with the protestors. The police officials later managed to disperse them assuring that they will be provided justice. In a press release issued on Friday, the DHA management claimed that about fifty villagers of Fateh Jhang Singh Wala tried to stop the ongoing development work by pelting stones on the police deputed for the security of development work. It said that onece warned by the police constables, few miscreants started firing and later resorted to aimed fire on police personals and working party. As a result one policeman and two DHA officials received bullets injuries and were wounded. Later police managed to disperse them and apprehended two of the main culprits. FIR was lodged agaisnt the miscreants.
