Forging grand alliance not easy: Firdaus

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Federal Minister for Information Dr Firdaus Aashiq Awan has maintained no single can forge a grand alliance since it is only possible when all the rest of the parties unite on one platform. While asserting that the PPP would complete its term, she advised the Opposition parties, both as a single entity or as an alliance, to play positive and constructive role, and whichever did this, the government would encourage it. She also endorsed the idea that political parties should remain in contact with each other, but these should not lead to mid-term elections. However, Dr Awan quickly observed that those thinking of such polls should keep in mind the recent AJK balloting. The opposition must keep it mind that whether the elections will mid or full term, the PPP will win, she predicted, while talking to the Waqt News on Monday. She was of the considered opinion that the PML (N)-led Punjab government had completely failed in giving relief to the masses, and the Sharif brothers should not criticise the federal government for the sake of criticism. She advised the Punjab government to fulfil its duties of the serving the masses, as the Centre was successfully doing it. Power has never been PPPs ultimate goal, and the coalition would lose its majority, then we, like true democrats, will part ways with the government instead of indulging in conspiracies, she said, adding that the doors for dialogue was never closed on anyone. While suggesting putting a lid on the rumour mongering regarding the present situation, Dr Awan mentioned that July 5 (today) was the day of the PPPs struggle for democracy, and all must learn lesson from it. She added that President Zardari was outside the country, and upon his return, more important decisions would be taken.
