LAHORE - Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran on Friday chaired a meeting of all deans and heads of departments to review arrangements for helping internally displaced people (IDPs) of North Waziristan. The meeting decided to deposit one-day salary of all faculty members and grade 16 and above officers to Punjab Chief Minister’s relief fund for IDPs. Moreover, sufficient amount will also be deposited to Chief Minister’s relief fund from self supporting funds of various Punjab University departments. Addressing the meeting, university’s Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran said that as per tradition, the Punjab University administration would help North Waziristan internally displaced people as it made tremendous efforts to help Swat internally displaced persons and set up exemplary medical camp at Swabi. He said that the Punjab University administration had also set up a Emergency Relief Fund to cope with such problems and helped flood victims. It was decided to set up volunteer teams of students to gather funds, relief goods, medicines etc for internally displaced persons. The meeting also authorised heads of departments of the university that if they find it suitable, they can sell tickets in favor of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to candidates at the time of admission in the Punjab University.This news was published in The Nation newspaper.
