LAHORE - Secretary General PPP Punjab, Tanvir Ashraf Kaira on Sunday urged the PTI leadership and other parties not to resort to politics of agitation because this was not the right time to launch such a movement against the government.
“The country is embroiled in multiple challenges posing existential threats. The agitation against the government at this point of time may destabilse the system”, he said in a statement.
Kaira said that although the PPP had also reservations about the authenticity of the election results but it decided to support the government in view of the bigger cause-the continuity of the democratic process.
He said that the PTI and its top leadership had long political career and should assist the government in helping to strengthen the democratic institutions instead of weakening the same through the politics of agitation. The PPP leader said that the KP was the worst hit province by extremism and terrorism and the resultant destabilisation would only benefit the terrorists and might make their task easier of taking over the more space.
He maintained that the decision of the PPP not to take part in agitational politics at this critical juncture of the country’s history was well thought out based on giving priority to national politics over party politics.
“Pakistan is in dire needs of politics of reconciliation as politics of confrontation will be suicidal and ,therefore, must be avoided at all costs”, he added. He cautioned that the anti-democratic forces were gathering and the PTI should not identify itself with those because it was the party that had popular standing. “The continuity of the political process will take care of the ups and downs of the process because it is imbedded with an automatic system of correction”, he stated.
