Trade volume between Pakistan, UK to go up: cm

LAHORE (HANDOUT) - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that the visit to Britain under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been very successful. “The British leadership has assured all out measures for further promotion of cooperation with Pakistan in energy, education, skill development and health sectors,” he added.
He said that historical friendship and economic relations between the both countries would strengthen as a result of the visit. He said that Britain is extending commendable cooperation in education, health, skill development and other sectors of social development.
He said that extremely fruitful negotiations have been laid with the British Prime Minister, ministers and other authorities during the visit, and as a result of this, the volume of trade between the two countries will increase.
Talking to PML-N London president Ch Zaheer Gondal, Shahbaz said the PML-N government led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is striving to resolve the issues being faced by the country and its sincere and determined efforts are bound to succeed. He said that Pakistan has become the best country for foreign investment during only one year’s tenure of the PML-N.
He said that prospects of investment in Pakistan have also been discussed with the British investors who have been encouraged to make investment in Pakistan. He said that talks have been held with the British authorities for promotion of bilateral cooperation in education, energy and health.
Shahbaz said that foreign investors are being offered maximum facilities for investment in energy and other sectors in Pakistan. He said that solution to country’s problems and strengthening of national economy is the top priority of the present leadership and its solid economic policies are yielding positive results.
Referring to the relations between Pakistan and Britain, the CM said that Skill Development Programme being implemented with the collaboration of British Department for International Development (DFID) is yielding positive results and thousands of youth have been imparted skills under this programme.
He said that the scope of Skill Development Programme is being extended to the whole province.
He said that DFID which has also extended cooperation in Punjab Educational Endowment Fund is now going to launch a big programme of mother and child care in Pakistan. He said the PML-N government is speedily working on different fronts and due to its effective measures, economic situation is improving.
Shahbaz said that he is fully aware of the problems of overseas Pakistanis as he has himself been in exile. He said that the overseas commission to be set up will work as a fully empowered institution for the solution of the problems of overseas Pakistanis.
Gondal while talking on the occasion expressed the hope that due to the efforts of the PML-N leadership, the masses problems will soon be resolved and the country will make rapid progress. He said that setting up of Overseas Pakistanis Commission in Punjab is a commendable step in the right direction and will provide relief to overseas Pakistanis. He said that Shahbaz Sharif has taken revolutionary measures for the progress of the province and executed unprecedented development projects.
