Cooperation in energy sector discussed

LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said the Chinese have made tremendous progress due to hard work, commitment, honest leadership and modern technology, and we can also put the country on the road to progress and prosperity by benefiting from the expertise of China. He was talking to a Chinese delegation led by Senior Vice President China International Water and Electric Corporation, Wang Shao Feng. Shahbaz Sharif said Pakistan was facing severe energy crisis with power shortage of 5000MW. Shahbaz Sharif mentioned that the Punjab government was working on various alternative sources of power generation. He asked the China Electric Water Corporation to extend cooperation in energy and infrastructures in Punjab. The Punjab government is working on Hydel power project for generating 120MW energy at Tounsa Barrage, he added. About the Ring Road, he said After completion of northern part, the project of southern loop of the Road has been planned and the Corporation should also consider cooperation in this project. Shahbaz Sharif said an MoU would be signed for cooperation in these sectors within a day or two. Wang Shao Feng said his Company was already working on number of projects in Pakistan and it was willing to work jointly in energy sector in Punjab.
