OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Ending US slavery to restore Pakistans independence and sovereignty, saying good bye to IMF and striving for self-reliance, wiping out corruption, overcoming load shedding within six months and building five major dams within ten years to overcome power and water shortage, evolving interest-free economy, dissolving all jagirs and distribution of acquired land among tillers, are the salient features of the Jamaat-e-Islami election manifesto announced by JI Ameer Munawar Hasan at a press conference at Lahore Press Club on Tuesday. The JI manifesto also envisions hundred per cent raise in literacy rate with Urdu as medium of instruction and simultaneous promotion of regional languages. Opposing terrorism, the JI plans to eliminate the culture of extortion, abductions and target killings. The rights of the provinces on their resources would be respected and the rich mineral wealth of Balochistan would be explored and utilised for national development. Establishment of a common parliament, common market and common defence of the Muslim countries are among the wider goals of the JI stated in its manifesto. Munawar Hasan told the newsmen that the corruption and incompetence of political rulers was the main reason of frequent military interference in national politics. To a question, he said that in future, every political party would contest elections in electoral alliances and no party would contest elections on its own.
