LAHORE – Nawa-i-Waqt Group Chairman Majid Nizami has said that he will never compromise on his policies and continue his struggle to make Pakistan an Islamic democratic welfare state as dreamt by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal. He was addressing a ceremony, arranged by the Nawa-i-Waqt Group workers, in his honour on the completion of his 50 years of editorship. The event was held at Hameed Nizami Hall on Thursday.
Nawa-i-Waqt Group Deputy Managing Director Rameeza Majid Nizami, TheNation Editor Salim Bokhari, Nawa-i-Waqt Deputy Editor Saeed Aasi, Waqt News Director News Hafiz Tariq, Nawa-i-Waqt Group General Manager Mujahid Hussain Syed, Chief Operating Officer Azam Badar, General Manager (Marketing) Bilal Mehmood, monthly Phool Editor Shoaib Mirza, Family Magazine Deputy Editor Shahid Nazeer, Weekly Nida-e-Millat Editor Aneesur Rehman, columnist Ajmal Niazi and senior and junior staff of the Nawa-i-Waqt Group attended the event.
The workers congratulated their Editor for his invaluable services for journalism. They said Majid Nizami’s services for the progress of journalism during his 50 years of editorship were a beacon of light for all journalists of the country. All were unanimous in saying that they are proud to be members of the Nawa-i-Waqt Group and it was their honour that they got an editor like Majid Nizami. The senior management, who spoke on the occasion, said that they always found Majid Nizami a brave journalist and a patriotic Pakistani.
Majid Nizami was presented shields and bouquet by the senior staff members of the group. He along with the staff members also cut a cake and prayed for the welfare of the country.
Addressing the ceremony, Majid Nizami said that his elder brother late Hameed Nizami was a source of influence for him.
“What I am today is because of my elder brother. I continued his mission after his death,” he said, adding that his daughter (Rameeza Majid Nizami) would also continue the policy of the Nawa-i-Waqt group after him.
Recalling the days when at different times in the past, dictators banned the advertisements of Nawa-i-Waqt and tried to pressurise him at his stand on democracy, he said that he had never bowed before any military ruler - from Ayub Khan to Pervez Musharraf. “Speaking truth before a dictator is the best struggle (Jihad)” is the motto of Nawa-i-Waqt. I, throughout my life, have done the same,” said Majid Nizami. Nizami said he had always considered the staff of Nawa-i-Waqt Group as a friend and not as a boss and prayed that together they would take the Nawa-i-Waqt Group to new heights.
