CJP lays emphasis  on education

LAHORE - Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani has said that Education is fundamental in socio-economic development of society.  He has said no country can achieve sustainable economic development without improvement in the educational field.
“Unfortunately in our country, education has not been a priority which it really deserves, even today only 1.9% of GDP is being spent on education whereas UN’s minimum benchmark is 4.5%”.
He expressed these views while addressing at ceremony of Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on Saturday.
Chief Justice said that the contribution of private sector in the realm of education was a welcome development.
CJ Jilani said “society plagued by inner fissures, lawlessness, uncertainty and corruption is headed only towards decay”.
He said that the objective of a good law is to facilitate bargains of stakeholders in the society adding that effective judicial system has a relation with good governance, maintenance of peace and socio economic development in the society. 
Justice Tassaduq Jillani said that a nexus between quality of justice delivered and quality of legal education is recognized around the world. 
He said that he is confident that the programme launched by LUMS will achieve its goal, offering excellent professional education, research facilities and play a positive and productive role in bringing about a social change reform in the legal system, promoting social responsibility, stimulating intellectual dialogue and debate, providing informed input to regulators and policy makers besides strengthening legal profession and judicial institutions by ensuring rule of law and good governance.
Later on Chief Justice inaugurated Ahmad Hasan School of Law and congratulated Dr Sohail Naqvi VC of LUMS, Chair and faculty members of Ahmad Hassan School of Law and all those who provided assistance in this regard.
Chief Justice Lahore High Court, Chief Justice Balochistan High Court also present at the occasion.
