Inquiry incharge 'backing killers'

LAHORE - The Incharge investigation police New Anarkali was accused of allegedly backing the criminals involved in the murder case of a canteen owner. Some four months ago, Jahangir Paul alias Awamk Butt, who was elder brother of Nawa-i-Waqt's staffer, Zahid Paul, was shot dead in the area of New Anarkali in front of the City Division Police Headquarter. Since the case had been registered, the investigation officers were using delaying tactics and were not cooperating with the victim's family, which has become a rolling stone between the investigation officials and the police high ups. The deceased's brother Zahid Paul has alleged that Incharge Investigation Inspector Muhammad Azeem had released the culprits of the case, he told this scribe, adding that no senior police officer took the notice of this malpractice so far. He stated his brother Muhammad Jahangir Paul alias Awamk Butt was running a canteen in the building of District Courts for the last several years where some criminals intercepted him and opened fire killing him on the spot. Zahid alleged that he had informed the police officials about the alleged involvement of some suspects in the murder but they were using delaying tactics and were harassing the victim's family for pursuing the case. Zahid Paul claimed that Incharge investigation police New Anarkali was deliberately backing the accused. When the victim's family protested against his malpractice, the said police officer threatened the family and asked them not to pursue the case.  The victim's family have appealed to the Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif and IGP to take strict notice of the incident and direct the police officers concerned to arrest the killers. They also appealed to the CM to direct the officials concerned for departmental action against Incharge Investigation New Anarkali Police Station for providing shelter to the culprits and threatening the victim family.
