lahore - Jamaat e Islami chief Sirajul Haq has urged the media to play its role in reforming the society and promoting national unity and harmony. Talking to the office-bearers of the JI central media cell at Mansoora, he said numerous social evils had crept in the society and it was the duty of the media to highlight these in order to wipe them out. The meeting was attended by JI deputy chief Hafiz Idrees, acting JI secretary general Hafiz Sajid Anwar, information secretary Ameerul Azeem, M Anwar Niazi, Qaiser Sharif and Shamsuddin Amjad. The JI Ameer said the governments in the country had been violating the laws and merit with impunity which resulted in lawlessness and unrest in the society. The media should use its power for the establishment of the rule of law and recognition of merit in order to evolve a peaceful society based on justice and equity. He also urged the media to try to minimize differences of sects and factions in order to create an atmosphere of national harmony. The JI chief noted that the west had started an onslaught on the Muslim world through the media. Millions of Muslims were massacred in Iraq and Afghanistan on the false propaganda of the presence of WMDs in Iraq and the Muslims hand behind the 9/11 tragedy which were never proved. Meanwhile, the JI chief has convened a meeting of the central executive committee of the JI at Mansoora on July 12. The meeting will discuss the latest political situation prevailing in the country and the future line of action of the party. This news was published in The Nation newspaper.
