LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over meeting of Board of Governors of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute & Research Centre, on Sunday. President Board of Governors Prof Dr Saeed Akhtar gave a briefing regarding various affairs of the project. The meeting of Board of Governors also gave approval to some matters.
Addressing the meeting Shahbaz Sharif said that the project of Pakistan Kidney & Liver Transplant Institute and Research Centre is of special importance with regard to public health and this institution would be state of the art institute of South Asia where modern medical facilities will be available to kidney and liver patients under one roof while facility of kidney and liver transplant will also be available.
He said that Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute & Research Centre will be a unique institution of its kind in Pakistan and will be a milestone in public health sector. He said that this project of public importance will have to be completed speedily by working with national spirit and hard work. He said quality health facilities of international standard will be available to common man in an excellent atmosphere in this institution.
The chief minister said that a research centre would also be set up in the institution while a programme has been evolved to establish a medical university also. He directed that planning should be made for recruitment of specialist doctors and nurses for the institute.
He said that Punjab government would also arrange training of doctors and nurses from abroad with its own resources. He said that due attention should be paid to all matters during planning and designing of the project. He said that resources are a national trust and their proper and transplant utilisation should be ensured.
The chief minister also issued instructions for the setting up of a technical sub-committee for making immediate decisions on some matters and said that concerned institutions should ensure all out cooperation with regard to the project.
He said that no effort should be spared for the achievement of the fixed timeline. He further directed that provincial steering committee should hold meeting regularly after every 15 days and work should be carried out with hard work and commitment for the implementation of this very important project.
Adviser on Health Kh Salman Rafique, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretaries of Finance, Health, Communication & Works, Housing departments, Commissioner Lahore Division, DCO Lahore, Managing Director Sui Northern Gas Pipelines, Chief Executive Officer LESCO and concerned officials and members of Board of Governors of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute & Research Centre attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting regarding preparation and demand of skilled manpower in the province which reviewed promotion of vocational education, development of quality skilled manpower and capacity-building of vocational training institutions.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that progress and prosperity of the country depends upon promotion of vocational education. He said that problems like poverty and unemployment could be controlled by promotion of vocational education. He said that skilled workforce is of vital importance for the strengthening of economy of the country.
“The Punjab government has adopted a solid strategy for the promotion of vocational education. Target of making 20 lakh youth skillful during the next three years will be achieved at any cost and vocational institutions will have to work in a coordinated manner and give results. Provision of resources for equipping the youth with modern knowledge is useful investment,” he added.
He said: “There will be no shortage of resources in the preparation of skilled manpower in accordance with the local and foreign markets. The country cannot progress without promotion of vocational education and skilled manpower. There is a need for capacity-building of vocational institutions of Punjab and making them active.”
